Ada girls complete Class 4A tennis 3-peat

OKLAHOMA CITY — The celebration started early Saturday for the Ada High School girls tennis team. The Lady Cougars clinched the Class 4A State championship by advancing to championship matches in three divisions Saturday morning at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. By midday, it was all over but the crying — by the other state contenders. Ada finished with 29 team points to capture its third consecutive Class 4A state title. Riverfield Country Day School took runner-up with 25 points, followed by Crossings Christian with 19, Lincoln Christian with 16 and The Academy of Classical Christian Studies with 10. Notably, the teams that finished second through fifth were all private schools. Ada coach Terry Swopes said his players saved some of their best tennis of the season for the final weekend. “I was incredibly proud of the girls this weekend. TJ tennis adds 2 wins, improves to 7-2

Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School traveled to Clever High School for a regular season boys tennis contest Tuesday. The Cavaliers rolled to a 9-0 sweep of the Bluejays. Sam Goodhue started things with an 8-0 sweep of Clever's Austin Ginter in No. 1 singles. Goodhue paired with Ryker Faaborg in No. 1 doubles to claim an 8-1 win over Ginter and Austin Paasch as well. The closest the Bluejays came to earning a win was in No. 6 singles when Noah Thornton drove the Cavs' Saad Rabbi to an 8-6 final that saw Rabbi narrowly escape defeat. In doubles, Rabbi paired with Phillip Mitchell and eliminated Jordan Markanjevic and Ethan Kenly 8-4. Other TJ individuals to earn sweeps were Yousuf Mokhtar over Paasch in No. 3 singles, Faaborg over Markanjevic at No 4, and Mitchell over Tyler Rankey at No. 5.
