Jack Draper and Carlos Alcaraz will be the main attractions in the men’s event of the HSBC Championships on day two.

British No 1 Draper is stepping up his preparations for Wimbledon, after ending the clay-court season with a fourth-round defeat by Alexander Bublik at the French Open. His opening match is against Jenson Brooksby, of the United States. Draper reached the quarter-finals last year.

Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon champion and 2023 Queen’s winner, has been drawn to play countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his first match on the grass. Alcaraz has been recharging his batteries with a “chilled” holiday in Ibiza following his epic French Open final win against Jannik Sinner and, like Draper, is in action today.

Billy Harris, the British No 4, will meet ‘s-Hertogenbosch champion Gabriel Diallo of Canada in his first-round match.

Monday’s match-ups

On Monday, British interest focused on Dan Evans, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley, who were all in action on the Andy Murray Arena. Evans upset American seventh seed Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-2. Norrie fell to talented Czech player Jakub Mensik in three sets – 7-6, 1-6, 6-1 and Fearnley took out Australian qualifier Alex Bolt in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
